The First Grader.

I was really excited to be able to go and see 'The First Grader' at the cinemas this weekend.  It has been a very long time since we've gone to the cinemas together, so it was a rather special outing.

This movie was made in Kenya, and based on a true story - the story of an 84 year old, ex Mau Mau freedom fighter wanting to receive free primary schooling in Kenya so he can learn to read. Wow. An incredibly moving and heart warming story, yet with a raw and confronting history of independence in Kenya.

I loved the Swahili throughout the movie.  I love seeing Kenya on the big screen.
I highly recommend this film for a story with depth, truth and for a glimpse of East Africa.
